Last year, Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name was one of several new titles in the franchise announced by RGG Studio. Billed as a smaller-scale brawler, the game will put the spotlight back on Kazuma Kiryu and focus on his story between the events of Yakuza 6: The Song of Life and Yakuza: Like a Dragon. And though details on the title have been scant since its announcement, plenty of new information has recently emerged.
As spotted by Gematsu, PSDeals – a website that tracks PlayStation Store pages – recently put up a listing for Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name, with the listing including new screenshots, details related to story and gameplay, as well as a specific release date.
“Once a legendary yakuza, Kazuma Kiryu faked his own death and abandoned his name for the sake of protecting his family,” the listing reads. “Now, he is thrust into conflict by a mysterious figure attempting to drive him out of hiding. Under the codename ‘Joryu,’ Kiryu embarks on a gripping action narrative with bone-shattering combat in vibrant locations filled with exciting characters and activities.”
Players will seemingly have access to two fighting styles that you’ll be able to freely swap between, like previous Yakuza brawlers. These will be Yakuza style, will allow you to unleash “wildly aggressive moves powered by Kiryu’s unparalleled strength and flair”, and Agent style, which will focus on speed and precision and rely on the use of high-tech gadgetry, like electrified bind wires.
It also seems like there will be three locations that players will be able to freely explore in the game. These will include two returning locations in Sotenbori and Yokohama, and a new one that’s referred to simply as the “mysterious” and “secret” Castle area.
A number of side activities that Yakuza players will be very familiar with are also mentioned, including racing in the pocket circuit, a cabaret club, karaoke, and more. Meanwhile, a separate chain of sub-missions will focus on a character named Akame, and will pull Kiryu “into an epic showdown that unfolds the more you explore and enjoy” each location.
In addition to new screenshots (which you can view below), the listing also states that the game will feature 2-player offline multiplayer, and that it will support free PS4 to PS5 upgrades.
As per the listing, Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name is due out on November 9. The RGG Summit Summer 2023 showcase is set for June 15, where we’ll likely be getting new information on the game soon, so stay tuned for officially confirmed details.
