The complicated relationship between Solid Snake and Gray Fox is one that has fascinated countless Metal Gear Solid fans, and it was in the first Metal Gear Solid that this weird blend of friendship and rivalry truly paid off. Watching Gray Fox’s internal struggles as memories of Snake started surfacing in him throughout the game was captivating. When that culminated in him sacrificing himself to save Snake’s life and literally getting crushed under the weight of Metal Gear REX, it proved to be a major, major gut punch.
