Project Octopath Traveler

Though Square Enix has a number of big-budget titles coming out, it took time in its E3 2018 showcase to remind RPG fans of Octopath Traveler. The 16-bit sprites, 3D environments and alpha effects still look incredibly beautiful in this brief new trailer. Check it out below (courtesy of Kotaku).

Octopath Traveler is interesting since it allows players to choose from one of eight different characters. Each has a unique command, like Primrose being able to charm characters to follow and fight for her or Olberic being able to challenge anyone to fight him. The combat is turn-based and relies on Boost Points to significantly up the potency of commands, raise defenses or even attack several times.

Overall, the combat and exploration look very compelling. Square Enix has also taken feedback into account so the final game should be more polished than the Nintendo eShop demo. Octopath Traveler heads to Nintendo Switch on July 13th.
