During the Future Games Show at Gamescom 2026, Capcom showcased one of Onimusha: Way of the Sword’s new gameplay elements. Director Satoru Nihei explained that the feature will allow protagonist Musashi to rescue Lion Dogs that have been trapped by Malice. Along with this, the director also revealed a new trailer.
Rather than focusing on gameplay, this new trailer instead focuses on Musashi’s battle against the Genma hordes. The few bits of gameplay we get to see showcase Musashi’s various Oni Armaments, like a pair of maces that can seemingly cause cracks in reality. A few of the game’s epic boss fights are also teased, before ultimately showing off Musashi’s Oni form.
The trailer follows Capcom recently having released an update for the demo of Onimusha: Way of the Sword, greatly increasing the amount of content players can experience before the game comes out. The newly updated demo has also been released on Nintendo Switch 2.
The demo picks things up where it previously left off. Following the boss fight against Sasaki Ganryu, Musashi gives chase, only to find himself stuck in a strange new realm where reality is tearing at the seams. The demo now also gives access to the Oni Bow, which can be used in combat as well as for some puzzle-solving gameplay. At the very end of this strange new realm, players can take on a brand-new boss – the massive Daidara. This fight even has multiple phases.
Onimusha: Way of the Sword is coming to PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch 2 on September 4th.
