From a commercial perspective, Pokemon as a franchise has been having the time of its life for the last few years, though that hasn’t exactly been reflected in how a sizeable portion of its fanbase has felt of late, with many having been clamouring for Pokemon games to be more ambitious in nature and shake up a tiring formula. Last month, Pokemon Legends: Arceus came along and did just that- and it’s been reaping the rewards.
Reception for Pokemon Legends: Arceus has been widely positive from critics and wider audiences, and to highlight some of the former, Nintendo has released an accolades trailer of the game, which you can check out below. In our own review of the game, we awarded it score of 9/10, saying, “Pokemon Legends Arceus is indisputably the best game in the series in a very long time, and a welcome and triumphant revitalization of the long standing formula. For the first time in a very long time, there is reason to be excited for the future of the franchise.”
The action RPG has, predictably enough, been enjoying commercial success as well. It sold over 6.5 million units in its first week, and has been regularly topping sales charts in major markets like the US, the UK, and Japan.
