Grand Theft Auto V

There was a lot of hype surrounding GTA 5, even before it was announced. When it was announced, however, all hell broke loose. Not just because the game looks freaking amazing- no, that is something we all expect from a GTA game. It was because it was set in San Andreas- finally. After so many years of pleading with the developers, the fans got what they wanted. And that isn’t it- GTA 5 seems to be a return to form for the series. While GTA IV was more realistic and cinematic, Grand Theft Auto V seems to be going back to the franchise’ roots of ridiculousness and over-the-top action, something we have had to resort to Saints Row for in the past few years. GTA 5 looks awesome so far, and we honestly can’t wait to get our hands on it as soon as we can.

BioShock: Infinite

Chances are, you’ve heard about this game, and that it’s probably right on the top of your most anticipated games list for next year. BioShock: Infinite looks mind blowing, even more so than the first two games- and that says a lot. The setting looks awesome, the world of Columbia ingeniously designed, the shooting as intense and thrilling as ever, and the story and characters as good as you’d expect a BioShock game to have. Irrational Games is making tons of changes to the formula, but somehow, it still feels like BioShock. Infinite has been in the limelight for a long time, announced in 2010, and the hype has only been increasing every day. Let’s hope the game actually manages to live up to it.

Far Cry 3

Leaving the African Savannah setting of Far Cry 2 and going back to Far Cry’s tropical setting, Far Cry 3 looks to be a return to form for the series, for those players who thought the second game was a disappointment compared to the first one. We’ve only seen a few minutes of gameplay footage from the game, but already, it’s looking like one the best first person shooters coming out next year. Not only is it carrying forward the series’ tradition to kick ass when it comes to the visual department, but it also seems to retain the intense shooting and thrilling stealth sections from the previous games. Let’s hope Ubisoft Montreal has learned from the mistakes they made with Far Cry 2- which, while a very good game, wasn’t half as good as the first one- and can outdo Crytek’s awesome Far Cry 1.

Conclusion

And that’s not even all. There are a ton of other games that we haven’t listed here that have been announced already- Ninja Gaiden 3, Assassin’s Creed 2012, Treyarch’s next Call of Duty game, DmC and a lot more. There are also rumours that others like Doom 4, Agent and Homefront 2 will also be seeing the light of the day next year. And there’s so much more that I haven’t even mentioned in this article- Ni No Kuni, Tales of Graces F, Dust 514, Yakuza: Dead Souls, MLB 2012: The Show. And obviously, Sony will be making a lot more announcements in the coming months. So PS3 owners can rest assured that they have a packed and fulfilling year ahead of themselves. There’s going to be more PSN titles, more DLCs and a lot more exclusives.
