Wedbush Morgan has released a new report predicting sales of consoles and software through 2014. The report was compiled by analyst Michael Pachter, with Nick McKay and Nick Citrin, and predicted that the PlayStation 4 would sell 12 million units by the end of the year. The Xbox One wouldn’t be far behind with 9 million units sold while the Wii U would be stuck at 3 million units.
Wedbush pointed to Nintendo’s inability to exploit multiplayer as a reason for its weak projection. The PS4 on the other hand has seen “phenomenal success right out of the gate” though the Xbox One has also “achieved great success”. In fact, one of the only reasons for Microsoft falling behind is due to the Xbox One’s higher price point compared to the PS4.
As for software saes, Wedbusg predicts $12 billion in sales for 2014. The subsequent years will see $14 billion (2015) and $15 billion (2016) with expected growth to be 9 percent in the next three years.
