Nothing Resident Evil does will ever top the Spencer Mansion. That’s not just because this was where it all began, or because of how immensely recognizable and iconic it has become over the years- though that’s certainly part of it. No, what makes Spencer Mansion so special is its layered, complex design that makes the location a joy to explore. What makes it special is how it’s dripping with atmosphere in a way that no other Resident Evil location has managed to date. What makes it special is the incredible backstory that the remake provides, contextualizing the location on the back of the tragic stories of the Trevor family. Spencer Mansion is on top of this list not only because of how important it is to Resident Evil, but also because it legitimately is the best Resident Evil location to date.
