Resident Evil 4 Remake - The Mercenaries_02

Capcom’s Resident Evil 4 Remake has received its first free DLC, The Mercenaries. It adds a new time-based arcade mode where players must quickly take down enemies. Melee final blows, headshot kills and taking down foes like the Chainsaw Man and Garrador award extra points.

Leon has all his weapons from the start, with the Village being the only level available. Additional stages (and other characters) will unlock with progression. During runs, you can pick up Time Orbs, which extend the timer for a chance at a higher score, and initiate Mayhem Mode. The latter increases attack power and movement speed for a short period. It not only grants more points and seconds for the clock per kill.

The Mayhem Mode meter is filled by slaying enemies and parrying attacks. Acquiring Mayhem Mode Orbs also increases the gauge by one. Like the base game, The Mercenaries supports the DualSense’s haptic feedback and adaptive triggers on PS5.

Interestingly, only four characters – Leon and Luis Serra from the outset, Krauser and Hunk as unlocks – are playable. While datamining suggested Ada Wong and Albert Wesker as being playable, they’re apparently coming later in another update, along with a new stage and Extreme Mode. Stay tuned in the meantime.
