While you often don’t think about it, games and film share a common thread when it comes to the horror genre. There’s tons of horror games and films released every year, but they often aren’t big moneymakers and come from lower budgets and indies. But there are some that rise to the top, and today we got a look at the NPD’s top 10 bestselling horror games of all time, and if you had any doubt who the king of the genre was, it’s about to be put to rest.
Via his personal Twitter, NPD analyst Mat Piscatella revealed the top 10 bestsellers ever of the horror genre. It’s probably not too surprising that multiple titles from the Resident Evil franchise are on it, but it may be surprising just how overwhelmingly it dominates the list. Of the ten, seven spots are taken up by Resident Evil games, with Resident Evil 5 sitting on top. The remake of Resident Evil 2 is also moving up that list fast, too, as it’s already number 7. If it continues selling, it has a shot at the top five if not beyond. Every mainline Resident Evil title has a spot with the exception of RE3.
The only non-Resident Evil titles to make the cut are Dying Light, which bodes well for the ambitious sequel, The Evil Within, and Dead Space 2. You can see the whole list below.
