Resident Evil Requiem has proven to be an incredible success for Capcom. In a post on social media platform BlueSky, Circana analyst Mat Piscatella has revealed that the title has become one of the 5 best-selling games in the franchise in the US. He noted that the only titles to have beaten Requiem in sales so far have been Resident Evil 5, Resident Evil 4 Remake, Resident Evil Village, and the original Resident Evil 4.
This sales performance has to be considered quite impressive, since Resident Evil Requiem was released on PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch 2 in February, and has achieved the milestone despite having been out for only a couple of months.
Capcom had already confirmed last month that Resident Evil Requiem had sold more than 6 million copies. The title also holds other noteworthy achievements, like getting 344,214 peak concurrent players at launch on Steam, becoming the biggest PC launch in the Resident Evil franchise’s history. It had beaten the previous record holder—Resident Evil 4 Remake, which got 168,191 players on launch, quite handily.
Resident Evil Requiem had started breaking records right from its launch, with Capcom revealing that it had sold 5 million copies in its launch week. The record was previously held by Resident Evil 6, which sold 4.5 million copies at launch. More recent entries like Resident Evil 2 Remake have also been successful, selling 3 million copies in their launch week. The last game in the series, Resident Evil 4 Remake, sold 3 million copies in just a couple of days.
In March, Piscatella had also confirmed that Resident Evil Requiem had been the best-selling game in the US this year so far, with unit sales being around 40 percent higher than the previous mainline entry—Resident Evil Village. It is worth noting, however, that this data only took the title’s launch month sales into account.
The latest mainline entry in the Resident Evil franchise, Requiem introduces a brand new protagonist—Grace Ashcroft—who gets caught up in a larger web of conspiracies surrounding the Umbrella Corporation’s previous deeds. Along the way, a returning Leon S. Kennedy also makes an appearance, focusing on his own investigation into Victor Gideon. Gameplay throughout the title alternates between Grace and Leon, with the former’s sections focusing more on the survival horror aspect of the franchise, and the latter’s focusing on action.
While Capcom has confirmed that it is working on more content for Resident Evil Requiem, a recent datamine has suggested that the company has also been working on bringing Mercenaries mode to the title. A datamine reported earlier this week has noted that the files for Resident Evil Requiem include 10 tracks that aren’t used anywhere in the game. This likely means that these tracks are being kept in preparation for future content.
The arcade-style action-focused Mercenaries mode has been a tradition in Resident Evil games since it first showed up in Resident Evil 4. While not every title has included it—especially the horror-centric ones like Resident Evil 7 and Resident Evil 2 Remake—the action-focused Resident Evil 4 Remake, and Village were the last time we got to play around with the mode.
Content – After just two months in market, Resident Evil: Requiem now ranks among the top 5 best-selling Resident Evil games in all-time US dollar sales. It trails only Resident Evil 5, Resident Evil 4 (2023), Resident Evil: Village and the original Resident Evil 4.
