Capcom has announced that Resident Evil Requiem, its latest mainline entry in the survival horror series, has sold over five million units. Launched on February 27th for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2, it’s surpassed the record set by Resident Evil 6, which shipped 4.5 million units at launch.

Comparatively, Resident Evil 2 Remake shipped three million units in its first week, while Resident Evil 4 Remake crossed three million shipments and digital sales in two days. Of course, Capcom is looking more in the long term with Requiem, especially since several of the series’ titles have gone on to sell over ten million units (yes, even Resident Evil 3 Remake).

It certainly doesn’t help that the latest title is acclaimed by critics, reaching an 89 on Metacritic based on 120 reviews. Fans have also immensely enjoyed the title – based on the currently 24,739 user reviews on Steam, it’s rated “Overwhelmingly Positive” with a whopping 96 percent approval. The lifetime concurrent peak has also blown all other entries out of the water, making it the biggest Resident Evil release on the platform yet.
