MORE ACTION
Alternating between horror and action and finding the balance between the two is something that’s defined Resident Evil for as long as it has been around. Resident Evil 7 was almost completely focused on horror, but with Village, it seems like Capcom are upping the ante where action is concerned. Given the series’ history, it goes without saying that many fans are going to be concerned about that, but so far, it doesn’t seem like Village is going to be too focused on action. As long as the game emphasizes puzzles and exploration more than explosive set-piece moments, a larger focus on action shouldn’t be much of an issue. Besides, Village’s more action-oriented nature certainly aligns with the pattern Resident Evil has followed. In its fixed cameras era, Resident Evil 2 was more action-oriented than the first game. In the third person era, Resident Evil 5 was much more action-oriented than RE4 was. Seeing that pattern now being followed in the series’ first person era doesn’t really come as much of a surprise.
