Team Ninja’s Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty has generated buzz lately, thanks to a limited-time demo on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. However, Rise of the Ronin, its upcoming PS5 exclusive, is arguably more hyped following its State of Play reveal. Set in Japan during Bakumatsu, it sees the Tokugawa Shogunate colliding with the Anti-Shogunate forces.
However, players embody a ronin free to make their own choices. In addition to an open world, it features combat that calls their past action RPGs to mind. It shouldn’t be a surprise then that Fumihiko Yasuda, who produced Nioh 2 and Wo Long, is involved.
Speaking to NextGenPlayer for MP1st along with producer Masaaki Yamagiwa at TGS 2022, Yasuda said, “I’m providing direction on the game. This is our next big title after Wo Long.
“The feedback has been good from what we’ve seen, and we’re very happy with it. We plan to release Wo Long and then release Rise of the Ronin and keep on going on that track and making these great games moving forward. The team at Team Ninja is really motivated with these two big games coming out next. We want to keep doing the best we can.”
Rise of the Ronin is planned to release in 2024, and is receiving support from UK-based PlayStation studio XDEV. Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty is out in early 2023 for Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PS4, PS5, and PC. The latter is also launching on day one for Game Pass.
