We were delighted to tell you about the new Resident Evil film doing quite well for itself thanks to an awesome opening weekend. It’s always nice to see our favorite games brought to the silver screen in interesting ways, after all.
Well, Roy Lee, one of the producers behind that film’s intelligent depiction of the popular franchise’s horrors, might be turning his attention to another kind of frightening venture, with a Silent Hill film reboot rumored to be in his portfolio per the Wall Street Journal. We’re going to wait on an official statement before we celebrate, but having such a seasoned hand who has a successful reboot film fresh on his plate is sure to help the franchise turn things around on the silver screen, where it hasn’t had any real success despite some strong efforts in the past.
Given how the franchise is expanding past the titular town to new places with very strong stories to tell, we’re not going to rule out the possibility that Konami is betting as big as it can on Silent Hill’s future, and looking to put it on the map in every possible way. That’s what we’re telling ourselves, at least, but it’s certainly a great time to be a fan of the long-standing franchise.
