With all of the delays happening (Hogwarts Legacy being the most recent), one has to assume that other titles aren’t safe. However, Sonic the Hedgehog fans can rest assured – Sega is not considering postponing the release of Sonic Frontiers “at this point.” In a Q&A session following Sega Sammy’s Q1 fiscal year 2023 results, senior executive vice president Koichi Fukazawa and executive vice president Makoto Takahashi were asked about the possibility of a delay.

The question was asked due to feedback around various gameplay footage showcased and whether the developer would postpone the release for further improvements. The company responded, “We do not consider postponing the launch at this point. Within the communication with users, we intend to reflect the parts that can be reflected within the development timeline and to build empathy with users.

Sonic IP is a mainstay title we will sell over the long term in the future, and we will continue to strengthen it in the next fiscal year onwards as well.” This is the second time the company has assured that the “open-zone” 3D platformer will release this year.

Furthermore, Sega Sammy said it had “high expectation” from Sonic Frontiers which is “scheduled to be launched this Winter.” Regarding the relationship between the movies and game sales, especially with Sonic the Hedgehog 2 performing so well, the company responded, “In the previous film, repeat sales of Sonic titles grew and Sonic’s licensing business was also positively affected after the film was released.

“The same effect is expected in the film this time, which has become a bigger hit than the previous one, and while aiming to expand the reach of Sonic IP, we also want to aim for the upside for the new title.”

Sonic Frontiers is coming to Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, PS5, PC, and Nintendo Switch. It still doesn’t have a release date but will be at Gamescom Opening Night Live on August 23rd. Stay tuned for more details in the meantime.
