'We were ready for it.'

Xbox One Without Kinect

Microsoft recently released the Kinect-less SKU of the Xbox One that puts the system on an even footing with the PlayStation 4, at least as far as the price goes. A lot of people assumed that the move, which came just a few months into the launch of the Xbox One, caught Sony off guard, which is why they have not responded to it yet. However, Sony claimsa that it always assumed Microsoft would release a cheaper, Kinect-less version of the Xbox One.

In an interview where they bared all about the launch of the PS4 and the launch of the Xbox One as it was perceived at Sony, head of Worldwide Studios America Scott Rohde told Ars Technica that “I think that, to be truthful, we always assumed that eventually they’d have to release a SKU without a camera. So we were waiting for it to a degree, and we were ready for it.”

So that explains why Sony hasn’t exactly done… well, anything to counter anything that Microsoft has been doing recently, really.
