After numerous delays, without even factoring in all those years in development, Squadron 42, the single-player offshoot of Star Citizen, is seemingly on track to launch in Q2 2027. If you’re not convinced, Cloud Imperium Games has released a new trailer and opened up wishlists on Steam. Check it out below.
The plot involves a rookie pilot who joins the UEE Navy and is paired with Lt. Commander Steve Colton (played by Mark Hamill). It’s not long before humanity is plunged into a war against aliens who seem dead set on invading. While its humble roots as a Wing Commander successor are fairly evident, Squadron 42 offers much more, including platforming, first-person shooting and puzzle-solving.
You’ll even walk through massive ships, stations and outposts while interacting with the star-studded cast (including Gary Oldman and Gillian Anderson). And despite all the controversy surrounding Cloud Imperium, you have to admit that Squadron 42 looks good visually.
If this wasn’t enough, the Steam page even lists minimum requirements (no recommended yet). They include Windows 11, a quad-core Intel i7 (Sandy Bridge or later) or AMD (Bulldozer or later) CPU, 16 GB of RAM and a DirectX 11.1 GPU with 8 GB VRAM. And make sure you have a whopping 150 GB of installation space available.
