It seems the wait may finally be over, as multiple Affiliate accounts reported receiving an email about pre-orders starting soon.
A fresh glimpse at what Rockstar’s upcoming open-world giant is set to offer is definitely around the corner, but the reasons why aren’t what you’d expect.
With Take-Two's CEO terrified because "expectations are so high," one has to wonder if players will even be satisfied with perfection.
"Development costs have gone up and up. And we really do aim to deliver the highest quality entertainment on Earth," says Strauss Zelnick.
Strauss Zelnick won't reveal the open-world title's budget but it could end up being one of the most expensive games ever made.
In a statement, BoA's Omar Dessouky said that Grand Theft Auto 6 having a higher price tag would encourage other companies to follow suit.
"If your core consumer isn't there, if they're not served first and best, you kind of don't hit your other consumers," said Strauss Zelnick.
“And I think the minute you stop running scared, you better get a different job if you’re in the entertainment business," he said.
"We need to be true to the underlying intellectual property, and we need to be true to our consumers,” says Strauss Zelnick.
"How you feel about something you buy is the intersection of the thing itself and what you pay for," said Take-Two's Strauss Zelnick.
"It's still supposed to come out this year, but that probably means December," says Giant Bomb's Jeff Grubb about the upcoming RPG.
According to public records in the UK, Rockstar North's magnum opus is already far above the competition in terms of costs.
"I'll be amazed if they didn't because the architecture of technology has advanced significantly since GTA 5," says Rob Carr.
Based on the reported amount spent on employee salaries in Rockstar North alone, this could be the most expensive game ever made.
One of potentially many key features has seemingly leaked ahead of the game's next big reveal, courtesy of a former developer.
Strauss Zelnick noted that, while AI can make things that look like games, making interactive worlds "is a completely different animal".
Strauss Zelnick spoke about Take-Two having plenty of experience with working on games for different audiences, like WWE 2K and NBA 2K.
Rockstar may not be gearing up to open pre-orders anytime soon, but this could be proof that it's on track for whenever it does.
