Developer Hoothanes has released a new trailer for its high-intensity shooter set on the Eastern Front of World War 2 – The Defiant. The trailer gives us a look at the intense fighting that took place in 1942 at the Futuya Great Wall in China, with many soldiers dying to advancing enemy troops. Check it out below.
The central story of The Defiant revolves around a group of soldiers as part of the Northeast Anti-Japanese United Army that was deployed to the snowy forests of Northeast China. Players will get to explore the heavily fortified streets and alleys of occupied towns throughout their time with the game, with the atmosphere focusing primarily on the sombre, tragic, and volatile atmosphere in China during its War of Resistance.
Keeping in line with its setting, The Defiant will feature an era-appropriate arsenal of weapons that players will have to use extensively as they fight off enemies. Some of the weapons include the classic Hanyang 88 rifle, the Mauser C96, and the SIG Bergmann Model 1920.
While there will be plenty of gunfights, players will also have to be careful about where they step, since just about every zone will be flooded with searchlights used by the incumbent powers to stamp out any signs of aggression. The overall structure of the title will involve telling a number of stories about The Defiant, with the game describing it as “a collective memory waiting to be revived at any moment.”
The Defiant doesn’t yet have a release date and is being developed for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
