Director Naoki Hamaguchi returned to Gamescom to showcase more of Final Fantasy 7 Revelation on the Opening Night Live stage. While it was nowhere near the extensive showing at The Game Awards, a new trailer offered a closer look at Cloud and the crew’s battles against the WEAPONs.
Only three were explicitly named – Ruby, Emerald and Ultimate (now referred to as Ultima) – but they’re each incredibly impressive. Players venture underwater to face the Emerald WEAPON, just like in the original, and we see them firing torpedoes, potentially to weaken it ahead of the climactic battle.
You’ll also take to the skies, dogfighting in the Highwind, and likely squaring off with a monstrosity on its deck. It’s all very dramatic, but don’t forget that many of the WEAPONs are optional. While they offer substantial endgame challenges – thus forgoing the need for a Hard Mode – you can also expect them to have “dedicated narrative components.”
Beyond that, the trailer offers a nice montage of gameplay, whether it’s Vincent riding around with the rest of the party on a Chocobo, Yuffie using a grappling hook, or Cloud and Tifa battling foes with their respective FITS. Final Fantasy 7 Revelation launches in Spring 2027 for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2.
