While we expected tons of details from Songs of the Past, which should arrive later this week at Gamescom, CD Projekt RED’s biggest surprise at Opening Night Live was The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Remastered. Launching on September 29th, it’s available as a free upgrade for those who own the base game.

Regarding the improvements, it’d probably be quicker to point out what hasn’t changed. Environmental details, monster textures, improved foliage, and revamped lighting, for starters, but there are also new finishers, more fluid controls and “revamped animations.” The skill tree has also been overhauled to facilitate more choice, while transmog support has finally been added.

The long-awaited cross-platform support for mods is also coming alongside an expanded Photo Mode, loot rework, new quest tracking, HDR improvements, ground truth ambient occlusion support, subsurface scattering – the list really does go on. Nvidia DLSS 4.5 and AMD FSR 4.0 support? It’s here. Xbox Play Anywhere and PS5 Pro support? Present and accounted for.

Even Nintendo Switch 2 players get exclusive features, though CD Projekt RED has yet to outline what that means. PC players can also look forward to Path Tracing and Ray Reconstruction support alongside ray-traced hair to fully appreciate Geralt’s locks. And if you don’t own the base game, picking it up today will provide Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine for free.
