The Division 2 Developers Have No Plans for a Switch Port “At the Moment”

You know we had to ask.

While the Switch lags far behind the PS4 and the Xbox One in terms of pure power and what its hardware is capable of, ports like The Witcher 3 and Alien: Isolation – among many others – have shown that with some technical cutbacks, most games can be made to run on Nintendo’s hybrid, and run very well. Questions about Switch ports for games are always pertinent, then, and recently, we asked Ubisoft Massive if they had any similar plans for The Division 2.

Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like that’s the case at the moment. When asked about the possibility of a Switch port, The Division 2’s associate creative director Yannick Banchereau said that for now, the developers have no plans to bring the game to the Switch.

“While we are always excited to work with new technologies and follow the evolution of the industry, we have no plans to bring The Division to Switch at the moment,” he told GamingBolt.

Something else we asked Banchereau about was whether Ubisoft have any plans to bring The Division 2 to the PS5 or the Xbox Series X, given that this is a live, ongoing game, and the next-gen consoles are scheduled to launch not long from now. Banchereau re-iterated that while the development team is always excited by the prospect of working on new hardware, for now they remain focused on continuing work on the game itself.

“It’s always thrilling to witness the launch of a new console generation, and as I said earlier, as developers we’re always looking at innovative tools and ways to bring our games to players,” he said. “Right now we are focusing on
addressing community feedback and updating the game on the current generation.”

This follows from his comments just a couple months ago, in which he said that next-gen ports for The Division 2 were not in the works.

The Division 2 and its expansion, Warlords of New Yorkare currently available on PS4, Xbox One, PC, and Stadia. Just recently, the game received its newest title update, which brought about various bug fixes. Get all the details on it through here.

In this same interview, Banchereau also spoke to us about the fixes Massive are working on as a direct result of feedback from players- read more on that through here. Our full interview with Banchereau will be live soon, so stay tuned for that.
