Naughty Dog and Sony have a lot of stuff coming up for The Last of Us in the short- to medium-term future, and in today’s day and age, collaborating with Fortnite is great marketing to pair with upcoming releases.
With The Last of Us Part 1 launching in September and HBO’s adaptation of The Last of Us coming in early 2023, recent leaks started claiming that the action-adventure series would be crossing over into Fortnite with a collaboration soon, bringing new skins and themed content to the battle royale game.
Given the looming launch of the upcoming The Last of Us remake, as well as the fact that other Sony franchises like Horizon, God of War, and Uncharted have collaborated with Fortnite in the past, many assumed that the leaks were indeed accurate. As it turns out, however, they very much weren’t.
Taking recently to Twitter, Neil Druckmann – creative director of The Last of Us and its sequel and co-president of Naughty Dog – expressed his admiration for Fortnite, but quickly shut rumours regarding a collaboration down. Calling it a “false” rumour, Druckmann said, “Love me some Fortnite… but there are no plans for this.”
The Last of Us Part 1 launches for PS5 on September 2. A PC version is also in development.
