However, Naughty Dog's next project could also be a new IP, as per Neil Druckmann.

the last of us part 2

Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us Part 2 is one of the most anticipated games of the year, and it’s been quite the journey for the development team what with reports of crunch, delays and leaks. While the sequel isn’t out yet, has the studio begun thinking about its next game? Creative director Neil Druckmann has, at least.

In conversation with GQ, Druckmann said that “As you start wrapping things up, creatively there are fewer and fewer responsibilities and my mind can’t help but think about the next thing. So yeah, the next thing could be a Part 3, the next thing could be some new IP.” Keep in mind that this isn’t an official confirmation by any means.

After all, even after the massive success of The Last of Us, the studio’s next big game was Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End. At the time, development on the latter was on-going while Druckmann and co-director Bruce Straley worked on The Last of Us. The duo subsequently took over directing Uncharted 4 when Amy Hennig left. However, if the studio comes up with a brand new idea for the foreseeable future, then it might be a while before The Last of Us Part 3 happens.

Again, that’s for the future. The Last of Us Part 2 will be out on June 19th for PS4. Reviews will go live on June 12th but in the meantime, fans can look into the official podcast which has its first episode going live today.
