Super Mario Odyssey
No, Nintendo’s latest platformer starring its timeless mascot doesn’t embrace a sprawling world like The Legend of Zelda. What it does is offer a perfect platforming experience with fresh challenges and beautifully designed kingdoms. Even the cliched setup of Mario chasing Bowser to rescue Peach feels fresh thanks to interesting mechanics like Cappy possessing foes. Veteran fans may find the story on the easy side but Super Mario Odyssey also has a hefty post-game collectathon to get lost in. This odyssey represents some of the best Mario gameplay in the series’ history even if it doesn’t take many risks.
