Resident Evil 7: Biohazard
Following Resident Evil 6’s largescale eschewing of survival horror the developer brought Resident Evil back to its roots for the seventh mainline entry resulting in a thorough reincarnation of a series that was on the precipice of obsoletion. RE7: Biohazard was refined and claustrophobic, trapping Ethan Winters in the creaking confines of a humid, swampland mansion. And – as a relief – it was unforgivingly scary. Thanks to the luridly hostile Baker family, genuine fear returned to Resident Evil and the series hasn’t looked back since.
