Microsoft took to announcing its own version of Early Access for Xbox One games with the Xbox Game Preview. It will act just like Steam Early Access and allow players to try out games that are still in the development stages of production.

However, there will be some neat new additions. You won’t have to buy into games immediately. Instead, you can play free trials for the games and then decide whether you want to buy into Early Access at that point. Xbox Game Preview goes live today with Elite: Dangerous and The Long Dark with Sheltered and DayZ to be added later this year.

As it stands, this is the first real Early Access program for consoles and it will be interesting to try out the various games included in it without having to spend any money right away. What are your thoughts on the Xbox Game Preview program? Let us know in the comments below.
