Microsoft’s approach to Xbox Series X and the beginning of a new console generation as a whole has been fascinating to see, specifically because, rather than opting to go all-in on it as a distinct piece of machinery, they’re choosing to build a larger ecosystem, one that will have a equal place for both the Xbox One and the Xbox Series X for some time to come, including with their very own upcoming first party exclusives.
Sony, on the other hand, have repeatedly talked about how they’re going to stick with traditional console generations, with PlayStation CEO Jim Ryan recently making the statement that they believe in console generations, and will deliver games on the PS5 that cannot be found elsewhere. Presumably in response to that, Microsoft’s Aaron Greenberg – GM of Xbox Games Marketing – recently took to Twitter to say that Xbox, too, believes in generations- but suggested that their view on that is not the traditional view.
Greenberg highlighted the fact that in addition to its more powerful hardware, the Xbox Series X will also bring all generations of Xbox into one console, while also highlighting things like Game Pass and Smart Delivery. He remarked that the Xbox Series X will offer “more choice, value, and variety than any console launch ever.” Read his full tweet below.
Things are beginning to ramp up as far as next-gen reveals are concerned. While Microsoft began that process for the Xbox Series X in earnest a while ago, Sony are ready to get off the ground as well, with a PS5 games showcase scheduled for June 4.
Microsoft, meanwhile, are planning an Xbox Series X first party games blowout reveal in July, while rumours have indicated that they also have another event planned for mid-July.
