Sega’s Yakuza: Like A Dragon has received some new details on the Omi Alliance. After protagonist Ichiban Kasuga emerges from prison after 18 years, it’s the Omi Alliance which controls Kamurocho. Relationships are a bit more complicated than that – first, there’s Mitsuo Yasumura whom Kasuga considered a brother.
However, with the Arakawa Family betraying the Tojo Clan, Yasumura now serves the Omi Alliance as a result. Then there’s Yousuke Tendou, a waka gashira (aka middleman) with the Alliance who used to be a professional boxer before becoming a Yakuza. Reiji Ishioda is also a waka gashira but harbors a violent streak and forcefully takes what’s his.
Given the nature of the game, it wouldn’t surprise us to see Kasuga and his party run afoul of each Omi Alliance member. How the story plays out, especially given the turn-based RPG trappings, remains to be seen. Yakuza: Like a Dragon is out in January 2020 for PS4 in Europe with a Western release later next year. Stay tuned for more details in the meantime.
