When Diablo ruled, an entire generation was defined by the obsessive clicking of city-building and monster killing. In Diablo’s case, it took the action RPG genre of Dragon Slayer and Xanadu and added loot, grinding, more responsive combat and a more grim-dark atmosphere. The story of humanity’s war with Diablo would evolve with numerous classes, unique abilities and that obsessive combat/looting cycle to keep us going. Heck, if you mod Diablo 2 just right, it might become your next obsessive action RPG even in today’s gaming landscape.
