Gun jamming has always been an odd mechanic in shooters, especially because you have to visually pay attention to when it happens. Deathloop is taking an interesting approach to this – on top of using the DualSense to offer a different feel for each weapon, the adaptive triggers are blocked when a gun jams. Game director Dinga Bakaba notes that this gives “an immediate feedback even before the animation plays out, which prompts the player in a physical way that they have to unjam their gun.” How often it occurs and how annoying it will be is another thing entirely but it separates the game’s combat from the Dishonored-like mechanics seen thus far.
