The insane amount of hype surrounding Metal Gear Solid 2 is often cited as one of the reasons that the PS2 sold as much in its early years as it did- and the game’s E3 2000 gameplay reveal is the genesis of all that hype. Hideo Kojima has a knack for stunning people with his games, and Metal Gear Solid 2 was no different. The level of realism, authenticity, cinematicism, and sheer polish that was on display throughout the entire showing stunned one and all. To this day, there haven’t been a lot of gameplay reveals at E3 that have managed to reach that same level of brilliance.
