Oculus Rift’s launch is anticipated to be a major product launch, not just for video games, where Virtual Reality obviously promises the next big paradigm shift, but also for the tech industry at large, since Oculus Rift brings us so much closer to a vision of the future we as a society have collectively held for quite a while now.
However, the exact matter of when it releases has been a cause of some speculation and debate; in spite of the release of multiple ‘devkit’ configurations of the product, we have had no indication yet of when the product will finally release to the public at large. Which, of course, it’s fine because I’d rather they perfect the technology first before bringing it to the market, instead of rushing it and setting back the entire so called VR movement back by a few decades, but it does make those looking forward to it a little antsy.
Well, the release is almost here- at this point, the only hold up seems to be the proper input method to interface with Oculus. Apart from that, the device is almost set to go.
“We’re all hungry for it to happen,” Oculus CEO Brendan Iribe said. “We’re getting very close. It’s months, not years away, but many months.
“We’ve gone out there and set this bar and said, ‘We want to get it right.’ We don’t want it to be four or five years. We’re eager for this to happen.”
