DOOM will be receiving its first major update since its launch later this month, id Software announced today. In the meanwhile, today, they have released an update for the game’s multiplayer mode (perhaps the first in a line of many, all aiming to improve the game’s poorly received multiplayer), which rebalances some weapons based on player feedback, shortens the wait time between matches to 60 seconds, and makes it so Clan Arena and Freeze Tag now require the winning team to complete 5 rounds in order to win the match.

The multiplayer update is a server side update, so no download will be made available- but starting 10.30PM ET, the server will be offline for an hour. For the update planned later this month, meanwhile, id Software shared at least the following changes and additions that the update will have:

  • Added Photo Mode for taking in-game screenshots
  • Added Classic DOOM weapon placement/view model option (1st person view option)
  • Added new Snapmap features (including skybox windows) and AI pathing and logic fixes.
  • Fixed various bugs including players accidentally triggering Dev Mode and Trophy/Achievement bugs (IDKFA, Every Nook and Cranny).

All in all, it sounds like id plan on continuing to improve upon what was already a very good product upon launch- which is great, because DOOM has all the makings of a modern classic. If you haven’t already, you should definitely look into getting it. It is available now on Xbox One, PS4, and PC.
