Take Two’s “Highly Anticipated Title” Pushed Back to Fiscal Year 2020

Rumoured as Borderlands 3, it was pushed back for "additional development time".

In the midst of Gearbox Software CEO Randy Pitchford confirming that the next Borderlands would not be at E3 2018, publisher Take Two Interactive has confirmed a “highly anticipated title” to be pushed back to fiscal year 2020.

Take Two noted announced in its recent financial report that “The highly-anticipated title from one of 2K’s biggest franchises, which had been planned for release during the current fiscal year, is now planned for launch during fiscal 2020 to allow for additional development time. We remain as excited as ever about this title, and expect it to enhance our results next fiscal year.” Originally, this title was meant to release in fiscal year 2019.

The title has long been rumoured as Borderlands 3 but neither Take Two nor Gearbox have officially announced the game as of yet. Rendering tech that may be of “use in a future Gearbox game” was showcased by Pitchford at GDC 2017. Since then, there hasn’t been much information at all about Borderlands 3.

The delay is the most recent in a long list of games that includes Shenmue 3 and Metro: Exodus. Though the latter will be present at E3 2018, Shenmue 3 is still very much up in the air. Meanwhile, don’t expect any information about Borderlands 3 at all.

At least RAGE 2 will satisfy the open world, post-apocalyptic Mad Max-esque audience when it releases next year, right?
