Metro Exodus Will Have Multiple Endings, Player Choices Will Be “Nuanced” and “Subtle”

"It is very subtle in the game and that’s important as we don’t want people to try and game it," says Deep Silver’s Huw Beynon.

The Metro games have always been known for their narrative and tense atmosphere more than anything else, and though the upcoming Metro Exodus certainly has a lot of people excited about its much more open ended nature in terms of level design, those two things are still going to be supremely important. And just like its predecessors, Exodus is going to have multiple endings as well, with choices made by players impacting where the story winds up when it’s at a close.

Speaking to PlayStation Universe, Huw Beynon, who is the head of global communications at Deep Silver, the game’s publishers, said that the choices players make in the game won’t be a simple “good or bad” affair, and that instead they will be much more nuanced and subtle.

“It is really important that the way that system works is that those choices aren’t telegraphed up front,” said Beynon. “There is no prompt that says press this button to do the good thing, press this button to do the bad thing. Honestly, we don’t call it a morality system because it is not just black and white. I think it is a lot more nuanced than that. It is very subtle in the game and that’s important as we don’t want people to try and game it.”

He then went on to talk about the way the endings themselves will vary, saying that there is no “good” or “bad” ending, and that the ending players get will fit with the way they’ve played the game all the way through. “You play the game the way you want to play,” he said. “You can be whatever character you want to be. You can react to the world however you like. But, ultimately, there will be consequences for the choices you make. There is no right ending and there is no wrong ending. As our creative director says, ‘You will get the ending that you deserve.'”

We’ve been getting to see and learn a ton of new things about Metro Exodus lately. Not too long ago, we were treated to an excellent story trailer, while as recently as yesterday, we also got to see a full ten minutes of gameplay footage. Take a look at both through the links. Meanwhile, it’s also been announced that Metro Exodus will launch with a photo mode on day one, which is excellent news, considering how beautiful the game looks.

It launches on February 15 for the PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
