Halo Infinite Still Coming to Xbox One – 343 Industries

Franchise development director Frank O'Connor re-affirms current gen release following rumours.

A recent report about 343 Industries’ Halo Infinite stated that it would be a launch title for next-gen Xbox consoles. The first person shooter was confirmed for Xbox One and Windows 10 last year (along with support for Xbox One X), but some have feared that it would skip the current generation. Have no fear though, because Frank O’Connor, franchise development director at 343 Industries, has confirmed in a recent tweet that Halo Infinite is still bound for Xbox One.

This doesn’t mean that it can’t be a launch title for the next generation of Xbox as well, which is apparently coming by 2020 end. It might just end up being a cross-generational launch, like so many games that were confirmed for Xbox 360 and PS3, along with the at-the-time-unreleased Xbox One and PS4 in 2013. Regardless, given the amount of time invested in development, it’s unlikely to release this year.

Halo Infinite is a “spiritual reboot” of sorts for the franchise following the mixed reception to Halo 5: Guardians’ campaign. It will apparently incorporate role-playing elements and give players choices in narrative, while also supporting four player split-screen. Stay tuned for more details in the coming months, especially at Microsoft’s E3 2019 presser.
