Blizzard really could use his help on Diablo, so let the man have his wish, I say.

Final Fantasy 14 Shadowbringers

Naoki Yoshida is clearly a talented man. Under his stewardship, Final Fantasy 14 went from being one of the poorest received Final Fantasy games of all time to one of the most beloved MMORPGs on the market, and one of the most loved games in the series. And while he will continue to work on Final Fantasy 14 for now, he does have some aspirations.

Speaking to GameSpot, Yoshida revealed that he has aspirations to work on battle royale games, mentioning he has a rough outline that would innovate on a genre currently dominated by Fortnite and Apex Legends. That, and apparently he also wants to work on Diablo 4.

“I would like to make a battle royale game. I have some ideas to do that,” Yoshida told GameSpot. “I have some ideas to make that type of game fun. As an online game designer, I would like to make an MMORPG from scratch without any limitations or restrictions. Removing all those kind of restrictions, I would like to make one MMORPG that fits the current trend before I die. I would also like [to work on] Diablo 4.”

Diablo 4 apparently is currently facing development troubles– so you know what, go for it, Yoshida. You are clearly talented enough with a unified vision that you could guide the project to firmer grounding again, which might be all that that project currently needs. That apart, I would also be interested in an all-new MMORPG or even battle royale game from him. It’s clear that this is a talented individual—no matter what he does, I’d like to be there to check it out for myself.

Final Fantasy 14 is currently available on PS4 and PC, though Square Enix continues to try to get it on Xbox One, Switch, and Google Stadia.
