The Outer Worlds is hitting next month, and it looks to be a fun romp filled with some good ol’ morally grey storytelling. While the game is not out just yet, it seems the developers already have a lot of ideas about where the series is going to go, and they’re apparently envisioning a whole universe of more content.

Speaking with VGC, Narrative Designer Megan Starks talked about the potential of the franchise’s future. She said that due to the new acquisition of the studio by Microsoft, who’re apparently keen to expand the series, the company is thinking big now with the game. While she stresses the importance of getting the first game out before anything else, apparently notebooks are already being filled for sequel ideas.

In response to whether The Outer Worlds will be a franchise, she said: “I guess it depends on if people like the game, but we would absolutely be interested in plans like it, yeah. I really enjoyed making this game so I would like to work on it a while longer. But I think first our focus is polishing up this game and getting it out the door!

“The nice thing is, since the game is from the co-creators of the original Fallout IP, they just have notes and notes… we already have a full universe of lore, which is really nice.”

The Outer Worlds will launch for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on October 25th, with a Switch version slated for later. For the latest look at one of the game’s areas, you can check it out through here.
