The exclusive deal wasn't a small one.

Despite some glaring technical issues, Remedy Entertainment’s Control may very well be their best game. With a wonderful blend of surrealism and action, the game really feels like a sum of all the ideas Remedy have played with through their storied history. Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem the game did particularly well as it failed to chart on several major charts worldwide. Hopefully, the game finds an audience as time goes on, but even if not, it seems publisher 505 Games got a good infusion of funds due to the Epic Games Store exclusive deal.

We, like everyone else, has been covering the whole Epic Games Store saga that’s seen a lot of controversy online. One of the major titles the store got exclusive early on was Control. According to Digital Bros’ (the parent company of 505) recent financial report, they received a whooping €9.49 million for the game’s exclusive rights on PC.

When you consider the game was clearly made on a much tighter budget than many of their previous games, that was quite the deal. Not to mention there was also exclusive content deals with Sony for the PlayStation 4 version of the title. How much of that went to 505 and how much went to Remedy we’ll probably never know. At the very least, let’s hope it helped the game stay above water financially so we can get more in the future despite what you may think of these deals.
