Over 18 years since the release of Shenmue 2, Shenmue 3 is finally out. Developed by Ys Net and published by Deep Silver, Shenmue 3 continues the story of Ryo Hazuki as he travels to Guilin, China to hunt down Lan Di. However, for creator Yu Suzuki, the sequel marks a long-awaited destination.
In a new video, Suzuki talks about his development of the series, starting from the first Shenmue. We see concept art for the original design and how Suzuki wanted to create a role-playing game unlike any other. While Shenmue 1 and 2 weren’t the biggest commercial successes, the series achieved a strong cult status. From there, it’s a journey to the game’s reveal and eventual release.
