DOOM Eternal’s Switch Version Is “Coming Along Really, Really Well”

DOOM Eternal’s release is finally approaching after its delay last year, and most will be able to play the game in less than two months from now. However, those who’re waiting to play the shooter on the Switch will have to wait a little while longer. According to the game’s co-director Marty Stratton though, it’s going to be worth the wait.

Speaking in an interview with Digital Foundry (which you can view below), Stratton talked about Panic Button’s work on the Switch version of the game and how they’ve contributed to primary development, also saying that the Switch port of the shooter is “coming along really, really well.”

“They are… I call them masters of the platform,” said Stratton of Panic Button. “I think our tech team is amazing, and a lot of what they are able to do is because our engine is so flexible and because of what our engine team has been able to do. But, man, they are just… sometimes I get builds and I’ll just be like, ‘I don’t know how you do this. Like it’s really pretty awesome.”

“They actually have helped us out quite a bit,” Stratton continued. “They shifted some of their resources on the Switch to help us out on DOOM Eternal, because we were really trying to get as much polish in and get done as close to on time as possible, even though we did get an extension.

“But the Switch version is coming along really, really well. It needed a little extra time, just like the base game did. But we know the demand, we hear it. So it’s top priority, and I think it’s going to be great, I really do.”

DOOM Eternal currently doesn’t have a release date for its Switch version, though id Software have assured that there won’t be much of a gap between it and the base launch. Back in 2018, id Software confirmed that like DOOM (2016), it would run at 30 FPS on the Switch (as opposed to 60 FPS everywhere else), but that that won’t sacrifice the quality of the experience.

The shooter is out for the PS4, Xbox One, PC, and Stadia on March 20, and players can expect those versions to be top-tier as well.
