DOOM Eternal Will Not Support True 4K On Stadia After All

Contrary to previous promises by id Software and Google.

DOOM Eternal was supposed to be the big game that Google were hoping would be the crown jewel in Stadia’s launch lineup, so the shooter’s delay from its initial November 2019 launch into March of this year definitely hurt them. Even so, all parties concerned had been promising huge things for DOOM Eternal on Stadia. When it was first revealed that the game would have a day and date launch on Google’s streaming service, it was said that it would run in true, native 4K. However, as it turns out, that is not going to be the case.

id Software recently provided plenty of launch information on the imminently releasing shooter relating to all platforms (except for the Switch, which won’t be getting the game just yet), including its updated system requirements on PC.

While going over the Stadia version, id Software confirmed that the game will run at 1080p/60 FPS on HD displays, and at 1800p/60 FPS on 4K displays, which will then be upsampled to 2160p (which is along the lines of what many games do on the PS4 Pro).

Definitely disappointing- but with a game like DOOM Eternal, performance will be the thing that matters most, so here’s hoping Stadia can successfully support a consistent 60 FPS frame rate.

DOOM Eternal is out for Stadia, PC, PS4, and Xbox One on March 20.
