Last year, Nvidia and CD Projekt RED announced that Cyberpunk 2077 would feature ray-tracing support on PC. Now, with the latest info dump on the game in full flow, Nvidia have posted an update that details the game’s ray-tracing capabilities even further.

On top of using Nvidia DLSS 2.0, CD Projekt RED’s upcoming RPG promises to look like a stunner on PC thanks to its extensive ray-tracing support, which will encapsulate four ray-traced effects. The first of these is ray-traced diffuse illumination, which will capture “sky radiance as well as emissive lighting from various surfaces.” What does that mean, exactly? Nvidia writes, “When enabled, billboards and other illuminated surfaces and objects will brighten their surroundings with naturally colored lighting, and the sun and moon will realistically illuminate Night City.”

Cyberpunk 2077 will also have ray-traced reflections and ray-traced shadows. Finally, there’s ray-traced ambient occlusion, which will ” be used with local lights to approximate local shadowing effects where shadows are missing, greatly improving the quality of the ambient occlusion effect.” A handful of new screenshots of the game have also been released to show off these effects. You can view them in the gallery below.

What’s wondering is whether the game will make use of these same effects – and if yes, to what degree – when it sees a dedicated launch on PS5 and Xbox Series X next year, both of which also support hardware-accelerated ray-tracing.

Cyberpunk 2077 launches for PS4, Xbox One, and PC on November 19. You can check out its new cinematic trailer through here, or learn more about its combat and life paths or the Braindance mechanic in new gameplay footage. There’s also a bunch of beautiful new screenshots you can check out through here.

CD Projekt RED and Studio Trigger have also announced Cyberpunk: Edgerunnersan anime series that will be coming to Netflix in 2022.
