When E3 2021 was officially confirmed to be happening, Konami was listed as one of the companies that would have a presence at the show. It seems plans have changed. The Japanese publisher recently took to Twitter and said that “due to timing”, they will be not presenting anything at E3 this June. “While we are not participating this year, we have great respect for the ESA and know that 2021 will be a great success,” Konami wrote.

What’s interesting, however, that in the same message, Konami assures fans that it’s “in deep development of a number of key projects.” Why’s that interesting? Well, rumours of revivals for the likes of Silent Hill and Metal Gear Solid have been around for some time now, and have only been heating up as time has passed.

Silent Hill allegedly has multiple games in development- one at a “prominent” Japanese developer, and another that might be in the works at Observer and The Medium developer Bloober Team.

Other rumours have also stated that Konami is looking to license out other major properties to developers in the industry as well, including Metal Gear Solid and Castlevania. Where the former is concerned, it’s been reported that Bluepoint Games is working on several remakes. Solid Snake voice actor David Hayter recently also said that based on what he’s heard, those rumours are true.

Konami says in its statement that there will be “some updates in the coming months”, so maybe we’ll hear more about one or some of these alleged projects before the year is out. Here’s hoping, at least.
