Now that Nintendo’s recent Partner Showcase Direct is behind us, it is time to look forward to the rumored State of Play showcase that is reportedly scheduled for some time next week. While we haven’t yet seen any confirmation about this showcase, Death Stranding 2: On the Beach director Hideo Kojima has taken to social media to start with his cryptic teases.
Posting a photo of himself working on video editing software, Kojima wrote on social media that this is the first time he is editing anything in 8 months. It is worth noting that, 8 months ago was June 2025, which saw the release of the final trailer for Death Stranding 2: On the Beach celebrating its launch.
What this ultimately means for Kojima Productions is currently unknown. However, Kojima is likely teasing that a new trailer will be shown off during the rumored State of Play. It is also unlikely that this trailer will be for a DLC, since he has previously spoken about wanting to focus on smaller updates rather than large-scale expansions. This makes it likely that he is getting ready to officially announce a PC release for the title.
While Death Stranding 2: On the Beach was released exclusively on PS5 last year, this was also the case for the first Death Stranding on PS4. However, the latter would eventually get a critically-acclaimed PC release as well as an Xbox Series X/S port.
A report from November provided strong evidence for a PC version of Death Stranding 2: On the Beach being in the works, since the port was temporarily listed on the official website for the Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB). In the listing, which has since been taken down, the latest game by Kojima Productions got a rating of “M” for Mature 17+. A curious detail about this listing was the fact that Sony Interactive Entertainment was noted as the game’s publisher. The original Death Stranding, on the other hand, had its PC and Xbox Series X/S releases published by 505 Games.
Kojima has spoken quite a bit about Death Stranding 2: On the Beach since its release, and in an interview from December, went as far as calling it his “masterpiece”. Answering fans’ questions in a video, he responded to one asking which project he worked on would be considered his masterpiece by saying that “my latest work is my masterpiece. So that would be Death Stranding 2.”
In the same Q&A, he was also asked about his thoughts on what makes a game “good” for him. He answered by noting that the creator’s love for the project is key.
“First, the creator’s love,” said Kojima. “That’s key. Also, since it is interactive, say there’s an item with one intended use. But it doesn’t end there. The player thinks ‘Maybe I can use it this way too?’ and tries it out. It works, and they think, ‘Oh, cool!’ Then they try another way, and realize that’s prepared too. It’s about that level of freedom. The player discovers things for themselves, and finds those mechanics.”
