It would have seemed impossible decades ago if Bethesda Game Studios didn’t announce it outright. But it’s true – the company is working with Obsidian Entertainment on a new Fallout project. Details are scarce for the time being, and it will share more in the future, but considering their collaboration was on Fallout: New Vegas, this is momentous news all the same.
Other interesting updates in Bethesda’s recent note to fans are that ZeniMax Online Studios, which was recently gutted following Xbox’s mass layoffs, is working “closely” with Bethesda on The Elder Scrolls. Whether that means providing support on The Elder Scrolls 6 is anyone’s guess, but it will still deliver new content for The Elder Scrolls Online, with future seasons planned.
However, it notes that, “By aligning more directly across the franchise, we can create even better experiences for players.” Perhaps that “alignment” will ensure the MMO ties into The Elder Scrolls 6 or helps prepare fans for the same in an effort to draw in newcomers? One could always hope.
As for Obsidian’s new Fallout project, it could very well spell doom for the alleged Avowed 2. Though reportedly cancelled on paper, a small team is still apparently working on it with the hopes of re-pitching it in the future, given the amount of work already done. Never say never and all that, but as always, stay tuned for more details, and learn more about the long-term future of Fallout here.
