Rumours of a Resident Evil 8 have been grabbing headlines on a constant basis these past few weeks, and evidence – circumstantial though it may be – is piling up that Capcom might be preparing to make an announcement in the near future. 2021 will be the 25th anniversary of the Resident Evil franchise, and Capcom are preparing to commemorate that occasion.
A new page on Capcom’s license site recently went up talking about the same, with Capcom saying that they’re looking for license partners to commemorate the occasion, and do more work with the series throughout the year.
“We are looking for licensees, focusing on the 25th anniversary of the Resident Evil series (March 2021) and product development of the latest title Resident Evil 3,” their message on the page reads. “We are looking forward to planning campaigns and goods that take advantage of the world view of Resident Evil.”
Multiple leaks over the last couple of months have stated that Resident Evil 8 will be out in early 2021 as a cross-gen release, and that the game is due for an announcement very soon. Most recently, we heard that a Resident Evil-related announcement is coming on June 10. Meanwhile, other reports earlier in the year have also remarked that 2021 will be a busy year for the franchise, with a live action Netflix series also reportedly in the works.
Meanwhile, the series will see major activity beyond 2021 as well, with multiple leaks and reports stating that a remake of Resident Evil 4 is due out in 2022.
