Several previews for Kojima Productions’ Death Stranding 2: On the Beach have dropped, with multiple new gameplay details revealed. As detailed by the PlayStation Blog, there are now 12 Proficiency levels for protagonist Sam to master.
These will depend on how often you perform certain actions. Melee Proficiency improves as you engage in more close-quarters combat, while traversal improves upon traveling rougher terrain. Weapons can become stronger with more use.
There’s also Automated Porter Assistant System or APAS Enhancement where, by consuming “Memories,” you can improve Traits. These include Porter, Combat, Stealth, and Servicemanship, but the catch is the number of Memories is limited. Combined with Proficiencies, it’s ultimately up to you to define your playstyle.
We’ve seen some new B.T.s in past trailers, and one of them includes the Watcher, who can visibly detect you. Other enemies include the Armed Survivalists that carry firearms, but there are some intriguing ways to deal with them. You can now use a MULE’s electric pole as a melee weapon or even as a javelin to be thrown.
There’s also the B.T. holographic grenade, which will scare human enemies. It’s not as robust against actual B.T.s, but it’s certainly a compelling option if you’re not looking to engage in widespread manslaughter.
Death Stranding 2: On the Beach launches on June 26th for PS5.
